You want your words to be positive and life-giving. But harsh, negative words come out instead:
I always mess things up.
Why can't I get anything right?
I’ll never be good at this.
And sometimes that same frustration you feel with yourself spills over into how you speak to the people you love.
You hear your tone and you see their reaction. You wish you could take the words back, but by then, the damage has already been done.
Tomorrow, I’ll do better, you tell yourself. And yet, in a moment of stress or exhaustion or overwhelm, those same words come back. The same harshness. The same negativity.
What would it look like to pause, recognize the thought behind those words, and respond with life-giving truth from Scripture instead?
That’s what we’ll practice together in The Words Challenge.
A simple practice you can carry into everyday life
Imagine noticing “I always get everything wrong” and pausing before automatically accepting it as the truth about who you are.
Imagine correcting your child with a sense of patience and love.
Imagine having a Scripture-based declaration to return to when discouragement plays on repeat in your head.
These are the kinds of moments we’ll prepare for.
Through the challenge, you’ll practice:
Recognizing self-talk that conflicts with Biblical truth.
Separating a mistake you made from a sweeping judgment about who you are.
Choosing words that encourage and edify in your relationships.
Bringing your thoughts about your purpose and daily responsibilities before God.
Considering the words you want the children in your life to carry with them.
Thirty days gives us a focused place to begin—and a rhythm you can continue.
Here’s how we’ll practice each day
Read and reflect.
Your daily email will include an ESV Scripture passage and a short devotional thought to help you connect it with everyday life.
Declare and pray.
Use a Scripture-based declaration and prayer to respond to what you’ve read and bring your thoughts before God.
Take one small step.
A simple reflection or action will help you apply the day’s truth. Your downloadable workbook gives you space to write honestly and return to what you've learned over and over again, as much as you need to.
Set aside 5–10 minutes for reflection each day. You can also watch a short accompanying video on YouTube, Instagram, or Facebook for additional encouragement.
The videos are public and will remain available after the challenge.
I’ll walk through it with you.
I’m Lisa Gant—a Christian writer, speaker, Bible study teacher, wife, and mother. I’ve also served on prayer teams for more than a decade, and helping women apply God’s Word is central to my ministry.
My heart for this challenge is to help you recognize the words you’ve been carrying and bring them before God. Together, we’ll make time to consider what He says and how His truth can shape our responses.
This work also connects with the heart behind my upcoming children’s book, Chrissy Brown and the Trouble with Words, which explores words, identity, and self-worth.
During the challenge, I’ll share more about the book and how it can help open conversations with a child you love. The challenge is free, and no book purchase is required.
Make room to begin on October 22.
It’s easy to put off reflection until life feels quieter. Setting aside a few minutes now gives you a place to start within the life you already have.
We begin together on Thursday, October 22, and continue through Friday, November 20.
Register now so you’re ready for the first day. If you find us after we’ve started, you’re still welcome—registration remains open throughout the challenge.

I believe that all affirmations and words of encouragement are not the same. It’s important to me to encourage you based on what God says about you in His Word, rather than my own opinions. You don’t have to share my faith to participate, but I want you to know what will guide our time together.
